Obituary for James Rogers

James Stanley Rogers, 44, of Springfield MA died March 24 at Heritage Hall West in Agawam, MA while under the loving care of Baystate VNA and Hospice. He was born and raised in Valley Center, Kansas. Jim received his Bachelor of Music from Baylor University. He moved east to continue his musical studies, receiving both a Master of Arts in Religion and Art and a Master of Music from Yale University in 1992.

Jim was Minister of Music at First Church of Christ, Congregational in Suffield, CT and also taught music at the MacDuffie School in Springfield, MA. His musical talents were much in demand, both as recitalist on organ, piano, and harpsichord, and as a very gifted tenor. Jim was a long-time member of Novi Cantori, a professional chamber choir, and was a much sought-after vocal soloist in the area.

He was predeceased by his father, Lindsay "Ted" Rogers. He is survived by his mother, Freda Rogers of Valley Center, KS, his sister and brother-in-law Grace and Jim Fowler of Fallbrook, CA, and his brother and sister-in-law John and Brenda Rogers of Moncks Corner, SC.

A service in celebration of Jim's life will be held at First Church of Christ, Suffield CT in the Spring at the convenience of the family. Memorial docations may be made to either the First Church of Christ, 81 High Street, Suffield CT 06078 for their Memorial Garden Fund or to Novi Cantori, PO Box 30021, Springfield MA 01103. Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield has care of the arrangements.
