Walter Wood, 74, husband of Magan (Dineen) Wood, passed away suddenly after a brief illness at Baystate Hospital on August 16, 2011. He was born in New Canaan, CT to Emily A. Woodin and Walter H. Wood. He grew up in Pittsfield, MA, and graduated from Pittsfield High School. Walter was a US Naval Veteran serving aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt prior to beginning his chiropractic education. A graduate from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, he continued his liberal arts education at St. Louis University and Westfield State College. Beginning his lifelong writing career as a bio-medical writer for United Technologies, he retired from Dynamic Control Corporation of Windsor CT, as a senior logistic analyst; and director of the DCC technical writing department. Walter was an EMT for the town of Southwick, and member of the Southwick Fire Department. He was a past member of the Lions Club, and the Society of Logistic Engineers of America. Walter toured the south while researching Civil War history and had been writing a historical novel from the viewpoint of a surgeon during the American Civil War.
Walter is survived by his loving wife Magan (Dineen) Wood and their children, John D. Wood of Virginia Beach, VA; Rebecca W. Burnell of East Hampton, CT; seven grandchildren Jessica, Jennifer and Jason Martin, Joshua, Jacob and Juliana Wood. Great-grandchildren Baby Bryce and Tristan Marie, who put the sparkle in PopPop's eyes. Walter was predeceased by his son James A. Wood, of Southwick, MA.
