Christine Elaine Del Vaglio (Calder) 51, devoted wife of David Del Vaglio and beloved mother of Nicholas and Zachary Del Vaglio, passed away on August 10, 2012 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Daughter of Dr. Clarence and Rose Calder, Christine was born on July 19, 1961 in Fitchburg, MA and spent her childhood years raised in Mansfield, CT where she attended E.O. Smith High School. She further pursued her studies at Smith College in Northampton, MA where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree and graduated cum laude in 1983. She then began her professional career working as an actuarial analyst consultant specializing in marketing and product research. Over the years she was employed with local insurance consulting groups in the Hartford area. Her greatest success, however, was being a wife and mother. Christine was dedicated to building a safe and happy home for her family. She worked diligently, every day, to ensure that her children are happy, educated, and dedicated citizens. As such, Christine immersed herself in their lives. She served on the board of the Suffield Cooperative Preschool while her children attended preschool. During their elementary school years, Christine was an active room mother, ensuring that parties were plentiful and that the teachers who “raised” her children away from home had the tools necessary to do so to the best of their abilities. An avid reader, Christine could be found with her eyes on the pages of the chosen book of the month club book. Ever a sports lover, Christine could always be found on the sidelines of her children’s games as well as cheering on local teams such as UCONN and the New England Patriots.

Besides her husband and two children, Christine is survived by her parents, Dr. Clarence and Rose Calder of Mansfield; her brother and sister-in-law George and Linda Calder of Granby, along with their children Andrew and Glen; and her Godparents Ross and Kiki Triant of Everett, MA. She also leaves to mourn her wonderful family of in-laws, Julio Del Vaglio of Waterbury, Pam Del Vaglio of East Hartford, along with her children Chase and Aliza; Lori Del Vaglio of Plainville; Tracie Del Vaglio of East Hartford, along with her son Joshua. She was predeceased by her mother-in-law Margaret Del Vaglio.

A sunset Celebration of Life Memorial service for family and friends will be held on Tues. August 14 at 6 pm at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, located at 81 High Street in Suffield, CT. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Christine Del Vaglio Scholarship Fund and sent to The First National Bank of Suffield, 30 Bridge Street, Suffield, CT 06078. Burial services will be private to the family.
