Clare A. McManus, 85, of Longmeadow, MA, beloved wife of 61 years to William J. McManus Jr. passed away on Friday, June 29th, 2012 at the Suffield House surrounded by her family. Clare was born in Chicopee Falls on September 10, 1926, daughter of the late John P. and Theresa Sheehan, she was a resident of Longmeadow for 50 years. Clare was predeceased by her son William J. McManus III, her brother John (Jack) Sheehan and her sister Marie Gilrein. She is survived by her husband William J. McManus Jr. of Longmeadow, MA and children, Jeffrey McManus, of West Springfield, MA, Susan Fairchild of Jupiter, FL, Martha O’Brien and her husband John of Suffield, CT and David McManus of Granby, CT. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Lauren Fairchild, Michaela McManus, Patrick and Spencer O’Brien and Colin and Kelly McManus. Clare also leaves many nieces and nephews, who she loved. Clare was a graduate of Framingham State College. After raising her family, she returned to teaching home economics at Chicopee Comp and then Bulkeley High School, retiring in the mid 90s. Clare was a loving person and a devoted Mother whos generosity touched many other lives over the years. Clare was an exceptional cook and seamstress. She especially enjoyed hosting dinner parties, summer trips to the Cape and playing golf. Joyful in life, her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her. Her smiling blue Irish eyes will be forever missed. Burial will be private at the request of the family. A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Mary’s Church, Longmeadow, Thursday, July 5th at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Clare’s name to the charity of your choice. The family extends special thanks to Ana Jarosz, loving caregiver to Clare and Bill.
