Obituary for Syndine St. John

Syndine St. John, of Suffield, Connecticut, a Christian, American, award winning corporate communication specialist, animal lover, breast cancer survivor, and partner, who was extremely passionate and loyal to the causes she believed in, was called by the Lord on February 28, 2023 after a brief illness.

Syndine was born on August 6, 1954 to her late mother, Bernadine Yockey. They were best friends until Bernie passed away from breast cancer. They traveled the country together, laughing, singing and dancing all the way.

In her youth, Syndine was a model, wore the crown of Miss Cincinnati, and was selected as a cheerleader for the NFL Cincinnati Bengals the first year the team had a cheerleading squad. She was an original Ben-Gal.

She attended The Ohio State University and graduated, as an adult, from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles, California. She was so proud to get her degree in her 40s. After selling her communications company in which she represented several entities of the motion picture industry, she forged her career with a few Fortune 50 companies in corporate communications.

She was particular, fastidious and meticulous in all she did. And nowhere was that more evident than in the care she gave her Boyz (that’s correct, Boyz with a “z”). They were her Irish Setters: Luke, Nick, Jake, Zeke, Mickey and Rocky. Syndine has been granted a forever pass at Rainbow Bridge to see what shenanigans her red-haired, floppy-eared, goofballs are up to. Neither they nor she are sick anymore.

Syndine lived close to an equestrian farm, and in the last two years befriended Hank, a 22 year-old donkey, the sole donkey at the farm among dozens of horses. She has trained him to such an extent that when Hank sees her vehicle pull up, before she can even get out of it, Hank runs toward her, hee-hawing all the way, because he knows a treat is in store. Don’t believe it? There’s video.

She leaves her partner, Richard Cottone, of Suffield, Connecticut; her cousin, Carl Yockey, of Frisco, Texas; and several close friends locally and in California.

Heritage Funeral Home in Suffield is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours and services will be private. If you are so inclined, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society. Syndine wants you to laugh a lot, and to tell those special people in your life that you love them, every time you speak with them.
