Obituary for Shirley Anne Norcross (Brownlee )

Shirley Anne Norcross, 86, of Frederick, MD, formerly of West Suffield CT; passed from this life on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Homewood at Frederick, in Frederick, MD.

Born on November 26, 1936, in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William J. Brownlee and Anne (Balmer) Brownlee.

Shirley moved to Homewood in February 2022. She had been living in West Suffield, CT most all her life but wanted to relocate closer to her daughter. Originally from Newark, New Jersey, Shirley was raised in northern New Jersey and attended Berkeley Secretarial School (now Berkeley College) in East Orange. She was employed as a secretary at Newark College of Engineering where she met Bill.

When her children were young, Shirley actively volunteered with scouts, church and school activities. She served as Deacon and in many other capacities as a faithful servant to the First Church of Christ Congregational in Suffield, CT. She was a member of the Suffield Garden Club for many years. When her children got older, she started working again as a secretary.

Shirley’s hobbies included various sports over the years, knitting, gardening and painting. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends on the lake. She enjoyed her early morning canoe trips, sailing with Bill and slow boat rides around the Lake Congamond.

She is survived by her children; Pamela Malagari (Christopher), and Stephen Norcross. Grandchildren; Rachel Dufour (Julian), Nick Malagari & Katie Malagari; Collin Norcross & Charlotte Norcross, great-grandchildren; Jackson, Tenley and Hines.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her loving husband William Norcross, and her son Gregory J. Norcross.

There are no calling hours. Private graveside service will be held in the West Suffield Cemetery.

A Memorial Service for family and friends will be Friday May 5, 2023 at 11:00 am at First Church of Christ Congregational, 81 High Street, Suffield, CT.
