Obituary for Richard Paul Wood Sr.
Richard Paul Wood, Sr., 81, lifelong resident of Suffield passed away on September 4, 2021. Born on June 3, 1940 in Rochester, NY son of the late Harry and Sylvia (Burlingame) Wood.
Richard graduated from Suffield High School before serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. After his service, he worked for over 45 years in commercial and residential construction with Spazzarini Construction and later with FEB Construction.
“Wooder” as friends and family called him was a lifelong racing fan. A winning racecar mechanic, builder and owner. He was a true old school racer who would build it rather than buy it. He took extreme pride in knowing that his cars never broke down or failed.
He is survived by one son Richard P. Wood, Jr. and his wife Shari of Suffield; two daughters Janet Heim and her husband Robert of Suffield, and Elizabeth Ortiz and her husband Joseph of Groveland, FL; three grandchildren Katelyn, Sadie, Emma; and sister-in-law Patti Wood of Westfield. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years Linda Ann (Zak) Wood; two brothers Harry and Donald Wood; and sister-in-law Janet (McAlister) Wood.
