Raphael Scarpa, 95, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Agawam, son of the late Louis and Annie (Dayud) Scarpa, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam and a graduate of Agawam High School. Raphael worked as a boilermaker for Combustion Engineering for many years before he retired in 1991. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers AFL-CIO. He also served as a Seaman First Class during World War II in the Navy. He leaves his wife of sixty-five years, Mildred D. (Murray) Scarpa, a son, David Scarpa of Agawam, a daughter and her husband, Karen and Lee Walker of Westfield, two grandchildren, Amanda Burgess of Springfield, Kelly Burgess of Westfield, and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Gabriella Bouchard. He was predeceased by a brother, Carmen Scarpa, two sisters, Madelyn Scarpa, Rosalyn Santini, a nephew, Emilio Santina and a niece, Santini. A private graveside service will be held in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home in West Suffield is assisting the family.
