Obituary for Phyllis Stafford (Bullock)

Phyllis (Bullock) Stafford, 95, of Suffield, beloved wife for over 50 years to the late Alfred J. Stafford, DMD; passed peacefully on August 17, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Burlington, VT; on August 2, 1926, daughter of the late Benjamin and Mildred (Cline) Bullock.

She earned her degree from Chamberlain School of Retailing, in Boston where she met her husband Alfred. In 1954 they settled down in Suffield, CT opening up the dental practice on Main Street, Suffield.
Phyllis was an active mother and member of the community, she was a member of the Suffield Women’s Club, the Girl Scouts, and a docent at the Phelps-Hatheway House and also enjoyed sewing the clothes for her children.

Phyllis was extremely talented to convert life-size Masterpieces to miniature works of art – oriental rugs, Persian carpets, Aubusson tapestries. She began designing and selling miniature rug and tapestry kits in addition to selling her own needlepoint artwork and quickly turned her passion into a business. She has won numerous awards, in 1994 became a Fellow of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans. Phyllis’ greatest thrill is the inclusion of some of her rugs in the Kathleen Savage Browning Miniature Collection at Kentucky Gateway Museum Center in Maysville, Kentucky; this collection features the work of the most talented miniature artisans in the world.

She is survived by four sons, Robert Stafford (Patience), David Stafford, John Stafford (Joanne), Paul Stafford; four daughters Joan Roush (Nick), Jane Sullivan (Tom), Jean Loiseau (Todd), and Jennifer Alberto (Jeff). Nana will be greatly missed by her beloved 20 grandchildren, Benny, Tabor, Dawn, Zach, Jona, Kassie, Michael, Alex, Angela, Brandon, Alisha, Samantha, Zarek, Nathan, Maddie, Nick, Andrew, and Marisa, Matt; and 18 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and two daughters, Judi Scheitlin and Jackie F. Stafford; and grandson Teddy.
