Obituary for Mary Andera Abare (Burns)

Mary ‘Andrea’ (Burns) Abare, 75, of East Windsor, died peacefully on March 19, 2023. Born near Worcester, MA on August, 1, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Gertrude Burns. As a child she learned to play the piano and loved to sing. She spent much of her early life in MA, before settling with her family in West Hartford, CT, where she eventually attended Northwest Catholic High School, and was named, “Class Wit.” There she met her future husband, Peter, along with numerous close friends who she maintained lifelong bonds with until her passing.

Mary worked for several prestigious companies over the years, including Coleco at the height of the Cabbage Patch Doll craze, and eventually wound down her career as an Executive Assistant with Pratt & Whitney. Her passions existed outside of the workplace and included trips to Cape Cod, antiquing, vacations at Bailey’s Island with her childhood friends, and dinners with her children and grandchildren. She loved lemon drop martinis and the occasional glass of wine, and her warm silly, personality and brilliant sense of humor were infectious to those who loved her, and anyone who’d just met her. She loved animals, especially dogs, most recently her beautiful, fluffy Golden Retriever, Murphy, and her spunky, loveable Westie, Rocket.

Mary is survived by her three sons, David Abare and his wife Lenore of Suffield; Geoff and Ellen Abare of Suffield; and Wesley Contro of Colorado; three grandchildren Austin, Bailey, and Brennen. She was predeceased by her brother Timothy Burns; and former husband Peter Abare.
