Obituary for Lawrence J. Edwards

Lawrence J. Edwards of Suffield, CT passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 7th. Born July 13, 1940 and raised in upstate New York, Larry spent most of his life with his family in Suffield, CT. Larry is survived by his wife Judy of 61 years, his three children Jayce, Chelen, and Marc, his sister Carol, eleven grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Larry was above all a scientist. He received his doctorate from Cornell and began his career as a Professor of Entomology at UMASS. He finished his career as a testing engineer of nuclear power plants with ABB, where he secured many patents. He was a life-long student and an avid reader throughout his retirement.

He was a man of many talents and immense creativity. There were very few broken things that Larry couldn’t fix. He always sought the truth and tried to make the world and environment around him a better place. He taught us to intellectually scrutinize new ideas and to find humor in everyday life. Larry was a beekeeper, an artist, a photographer and a poet. He was an avid volunteer – coaching his children’s activities, a member of the Suffield High School building committee, a contributing writer and photographer for the Suffield Observer, President of The Suffield Arts Council and a teacher of disadvantaged children. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, travel and especially time with his children and grandchildren. He appreciated music, movies, the theater and especially comedy. He loved solving the daily WSJ crossword puzzle and playing Words With Friends.

Larry especially treasured the life that he and Judy had with each other and their children. He will be remembered and cherished as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 11th from 1-3PM at the Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Rd. West Suffield, CT followed by a brief service.
