Joseph ‘Joe’ Frank Phillips, of Suffield, husband of the late Hazel (Campbell) Phillips, passed away on February 5, 2018 at age 92.Son of the late Martin and Veronica Phillips. Joe is survived by two daughters, Christine Phillips Cooke of Suffield, and Diane Phillips of Windsor locks; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Billy and Stanley Phillips; and three sisters, Pauline, Annie and Jean.

He was past president of the Suffield Sportsmen's Association, president of the Suffield AARP, and a volunteer on the Suffield Fire Department for over 40 years.

He took over the family farm with his mom when he was 9 years old (third grade) because his father was sick. He saddled up and plowed acres of land by hand with work horses until they got the John Deer when he was 21. He made the impossible happen. Had a strong work ethic. He was a roofer and endured great hardships to earn a living for his family.

Hazel used to call Joe her ‘Nature Boy’. They both were very connected to the great outdoors, birds and flowers. He used to tend to huge gardens by hand and would give bushels of veggies away, he was well known for his asparagus deliveries. Feeding the whole town. He would give you the shirt off his back and will never be forgotten. Now he will be free of pain able to move and will be birdwatching up there with Hazel up in heaven.

He had many sweet kind people in his later years who would do anything for him and continued to be our Earth Angels. His devoted sweet caregivers, many kind, dedicated, helpful neighbors, and dedicated close friends who spent a lot of time and energy keepin him goin, at the age of 92.

Calling hours will be on Friday, February 9, from 9:30-11:00AM at The Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield prior to the Funeral Home Service at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bridge Street, Suffield.
