Obituary for Jean Marie Kulas (Zagorski)
Jean Marie (Zagorski) Kulas 88, of Suffield, beloved wife of Paul A Kulas passed away Friday July 14, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. Jean was born November 16th, 1934 in Chicopee, MA the daughter of the late Adam and Julia Zagorski. She graduated from Cathedral High School, and then Jean filled a need to help people by volunteering at the Sisters of Providence home for children while working at the Chicopee Water Department for several years.
She loved music and loved to dance, so naturally she fell for the tall saxophone player she saw perform at a local club and he became the love of her life. They married on July 28th, 1962. Jean and Paul were the owners and operators of the Suffield Inn for 35 years, and she also spent some time serving the community on the Suffield Fire Commission. After retiring from the restaurant business they went back to their passion for music where she helped Paul put on countless shows entertaining folks in retirement communities around Connecticut, Western Mass, and Marco Island Florida for another 25 years. While he played his music she would dance and interact with the crowd and take full advantage of her biggest gift, which was her warm personality and her wonderful ability to communicate with anyone and everyone.
Family meant everything to Jean. Besides her husband of 61 years she is survived by her daughter JulieAnn and husband Paul Waclawski of Brewster NY and their sons Tad, Eric, and Kurt, her son John Kulas and wife Gail of Suffield and their sons Ryan, Kevin, and Trevor. She was very close to her brother in-law and his wife Peter and Fran Kulas, as well as several nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the aids and nurses who helped Jean during her time of need, especially Susanna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday July 18, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church 446 Mountain Rd, Suffield. Burial will follow in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Suffield. Relatives and friends may call at the Heritage Funeral Home 1240 Mountain Rd, West Suffield on Monday, July 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Suffield Community Aid.
