Obituary for Charles William Simons
CHARLES WILLIAM SIMONS, 89, WEST SUFFIELD, CT
Charlie, passed away on August 24, 2023 at a Simsbury, CT Nursing Facility after a period of failing health.
Born in Manchester, NH on June 21, 1934, Charles was the 6th child of his late parents, Helen (McKenna) Simons and Gustav H. Simons. He attended Varney Grammar School and was a 1952 graduate of Manchester High School West.
Charlie then completed a 2-year course in Drafting at the NH Technical Institute followed by 4 years in the U. S. Air Force. During his service, he was assigned to the 498th Bomb Squadron T. A. C. as a Navigation Equipment Repairman and later in the 345th Maintenance Squadron. After receiving his Honorable service discharge in 1958, Charles majored in Mechanical Engineering at UNH and immediately after receiving his degree, he began his working career, with the Hamilton Standard Division of United Technologies in Windsor Locks, CT. During the 30 + years spent with this Company as a Senior Design Engineer, he worked on many Space related projects.
Leisure time and hobbies enjoyed before and during retirement included woodworking projects, stamp collecting, biking, long nature walks, and his annual large vegetable-producing garden.
Charles is predeceased by sisters, Marjorie Jones, Lorraine Smith, and Arline Rom; brothers, George Simons and Harry Simons.
Left behind are his loving wife of 54 years, Joanne (Simokitis) Simons; a sister, Kathleen Bayko, numerous nieces and nephews, and many caring neighbors and friends.
