Obituary for Carol Ann Murzyn (Zolnowski)

Carol Ann (Zolnowski) Murzyn, 75, of West Suffield, passed away peaceful on Friday, September 28, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 11, 1943 daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Galea) Zolnowski.

Carol began working as a reporter and journalist for the Hartford Courant covering the local news and events. Afterwards, her career took her to the University of Hartford for 37 years where she eventually became the Director of Mail Services. During those years, she spoke several times at The National Postal Forum.

Carol was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and Sacred Heart Church. She loved to cook delicious meals and volunteered cooking at the Men’s Homeless Shelter in Hartford.

Carol is survived by her former husband Peter Murzyn of Suffield, one son Michael Murzyn and his wife Jennifer of West Bloomfield, MI; two daughters Deborah Somma and her husband Patrick of Chattanooga, TN; and Kimberly Murzyn of West Suffield; daughter-in-law Kathryn Murzyn of Enfield; five grandchildren: Patrick Somma and his wife Teryn and Elizabeth Somma and her fiancé Jacob Lincoln; Emily and Joseph Murzyn; and Jenna Myers and her husband RJ; two great-grandchildren Claire and Elle; and a dear friend Lana. Carol was predeceased by two sons Matthew and Paul Murzyn.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Church, Suffield on Tuesday, October 2 at 11:00AM. Friends may call at the Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield from 9:00-10:30AM on Tuesday prior to the funeral services. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial Donations may be made to www.SmileTrain.org
