Obituary for Bogdan A. Bodnar

Bogdan A. Bodnar, 47, beloved husband of Julie, passed away unexpectedly on March 18th, 2021 embraced in the arms of his son and surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in West Hartford, son of the late Teodor and Jadwiga “Jackie” Bodnar. Upon his high school graduation, Bogdan enlisted in the Army National Guard. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and then served his country for six years. He pursued his academic discourse graduating from the University of Connecticut with Bachelor of Arts degree in History. During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Julie. His lifelong passion and joy started and ended with his wife. They settled in Suffield, had two beautiful children and were married over 26 years. This was his ‘Troika’, the Ukrainian term of endearment meaning ‘the three of us’. One of his most treasured family vacations was when they toured the West Coast with his Trioka smiling, laughing and being together.

Aside from his beautiful wife, Julie, he leaves behind his cherished daughter; Gianna Rossi and her husband Tyler of Suffield; son Julian Bodnar of Sturbridge; his precious grandson, Theo; his brother John Bodnar of New Haven; his in-laws Beverly and Gary Paganelli and the Fourie Family; and his precious chickens in which he took great pride in building their coop and tending to them daily. He was a true family man enjoying his weekly Sunday dinners conversing, laughing and eating with his children, grandson and extended family. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and the Hartford Yard Goats. He reveled in sharing his sports passion with his children, wife and friends.

Bogdan was a Project Supervisor with Paganelli Construction Corp for over twenty-five years and was beloved by every crew. He served as a member of the Free Masons Composite Lodge #28, Suffield. He was committed to raising awareness for the National MS Society by participating in their annual bike ride for the last ten years. Hard-working, dedicated, and charitable are but a few words to describe such a rare man of honor and character.

Friends may call to the Heritage Funeral Home, 1240 Mountain Road, West Suffield on Tuesday March 23rd from 1-3pm and 5-7pm. The funeral service will follow at 7pm with military honors.
