Obituary for John Patrick "OB" O'Brien

John P. “O’B” O’Brien, 54, of Suffield, CT, beloved husband of 27 years to Martha (McManus) O’Brien passed away at his home on September 25, 2015. John was born in Holyoke on March 28, 1961, the youngest child of Mildred (O’Donnell) O’Brien and the late John F. O’Brien. John was brought up in Enfield, CT and was a 1979 graduate of Enfield High School. He was the owner and President of J’OB Built Wood Products of Enfield for 30 years. He subsequently founded Innovative Millwork Fabrications in Suffield. John’s presence lit up a room with his sparkling smile, his lively Irish eyes, his quick wit, his knack for spinning a great story and his unfailing way of bringing joy to those who knew and loved him. John was a loving, compassionate and caring dad, husband, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend. John’s greatest passion was helping his family and friends in need, no matter how far the distance, how small or dire the problem. John lived life to its fullest and his loving and lively presence will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Besides his wife Martha, and mother Mildred; he is survived by his loving sons Patrick and Spencer. He is also survived by his loving brother Kevin J. O’Brien and his wife Susan; his loving sister Mary Ellen Kempton and her husband Fred; his sister-in-law Susan Fairchild; and brothers-in-law Jeffrey McManus and David McManus. John also loved his cherished nieces and nephews Lauren, Michaela, Danny, Beth, Emily, Andrew, Colin and Kelly.

Besides his father John F. O'Brien, he is predeceased by his father-in-law Bill McManus Jr.; mother-in-law Clare McManus; brother-in-law Bill McManus III; and his sister-in-law Deb McManus.


Calling hours will be from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M on Friday, October 2 at the Heritage Funeral Home in West Suffield. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Church in Enfield on Saturday, October 3. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will be private.
