Gladys Scott Graves (Scottie), 89 of West Suffield, died on Wed., Dec. 10th. Born May 4th 1925 to Allen Corey Scott and Florence Coulter Scott, she was a life-long Suffield resident. She married the late Russell T. Graves, Sr. in 1945 and lived at Lake Congamond.

She leaves three children and their spouses, Scott and Ginny Graves of West Suffield, Susan and Joseph Persio of Cheshire, and David and Dayl Graves of Huddleston, VA; and seven grandchildren Kimberly (Graves) and Gilberto Perez of Avon, Scott Graves of Southwick, MA, Alex and Sarah Graves of Richmond, VA, Spencer Graves of Wilmington, DE, Joanna (Persio) and Matthew Bart of Washington, DC, Jonathan Persio of Cheshire and Jennifer Persio of Laconia, NH. “Great-Great” will be missed by her four great-grandchildren, Olivia Graves, Kristina and Sofia Perez, and Hudson Graves. She was predeceased by a son, Russell T. Graves, Jr (Rusty).


A 1942 Suffield High graduate, Scottie played many sports and the trumpet. During WW II, she repaired airplane engines at Bradley Field and later worked 31 years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. An avid reader, swimmer and sun bather, poet and fun-loving person, Scottie was a wonderful friend.


The Memorial Service will be held on Dec. 28th, at 1:00pm at Copper Hill United Methodist Church; donations can be made to the church at 27 Copper Hill Rd, East Granby, CT 06026 or to the Suffield Emergency Aid, 450 South Street, Suffield, CT 06078.
